FIFI projects- A new multidisciplinary Art entity in Miami

The projects space in Wynwood exhibits the work of young artists -mostly contemporary photography and video- outside of the confined settings of traditional gallery guidelines. It will also publish FIFI magazine; a bi-monthly photography periodical, and 2 photography books per year.

The space on 23rd St has a permanent roster of young, up-and-coming artists from Iceland, Spain, Mexico, Peru, Argentina and Denmark, but will also feature collaborations with galleries in Frankfurt, Mexico City and Los Angeles for special projects, commissions, and one-off shows.

The first show entitled 'Black Mathematics' opened March 8th with photography and video by Toni Francois, Giovanni Cervantes, Sigurdur Gudjonsson, Pablo Franco, Martin Andersen, Emilio Valdes, Daniel Castro, and Sergio Fernandez.

The show, incorporating photography and video, focuses on the documentation of fleeting, subtle moments and the fragility of the ephemeral. A sense of vanishing presence and the almost futile effort to preserve it.

The overall aesthetic of the exhibition is indicative of the kind of work which will be shown at the space: vanguard, enigmatic photography; intricately produced short films and video; and contemporary sound installations.

The second show, which opened May 10th entitled City Below The Waves, is all about Miami. It is a group show in which all the work was produced and inspired by the intimate relationship between the artist’s enigmatic views of the darker side of town.

FIFI magazine showcases high profile as well as up and coming photographers and has featured and collaborated with artists like David Sylvian, Sascha Weidner, Julia Fullerton-Batten, and Emilio Valdes.New issues coincide with exhibitions every other month on the Saturday of Wynwood’s Gallery Art Walk.

Lastly, FIFI hosts “Movie Nights at the FIFI Garden”, a showcase of vanguard cinema, art films, underground and cult classics every other Thursday under the stars. Opening night played the classic 1967 film by Jean Pierre Melville starring Alain Delon, Le Samouraï, with The Blackout scheduled for June 5th. Admission is free to all events.
